PVA National Service Officers (NSO) who are highly trained in VA law, benefits, and healthcare help to ensure that veterans receive every benefit to which they are entitled. Just some of the benefits in which we assist veterans and family members include:

* Service Connected compensation
* Non-Service Connected pension
* Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (for survivors of veterans)
* Reimbursement of emergency medical expenses
* Home health care
* Clothing allowances
* Specially adapted housing
* Automobile grant and adaptive equipment
* Special monthly compensation
* and many others…

Service officers directly monitor health care through constant visits to VA and private medical facilities across the country. Our service officers also visit state veterans homes, private nursing homes, and provide support and training assistance to local county veteran service officers.

What is the difference Between a National Service Office and a Chapter?

Paralyzed Veterans of America currently has 61 National Service Offices nationwide. By contacting one of these offices, veterans can speak with a National Service Officer (NSO) to ensure they are receiving the benefits to which they are entitled. All of our NSOs are highly trained in VA law, benefits and healthcare.

Note: Paralyzed Veterans members are welcome to join any of our 34 Chapters, regardless of their state of residence. Paralyzed Veterans Chapters provide members with; information affecting them both on a local and national level, sporting opportunities, social events, volunteer opportunities, and a myriad of other programs.

Medical Services Program

From conducting routine on-site visits to advocating for high-quality medical care, VBD's Medical Services program monitors the delivery of health care to veterans with spinal cord injury or disease at VA Medical Centers nationwide.

When a problem is reported, PVA National Service Officers or our medical staff initiates the appropriate action to ensure that veterans receive the best quality medical care possible. They work directly with VA care providers and administration staff and provide support, training, and assistance to resolve issues at the appropriate level. A team of experienced registered nurses, physicians, and support staff monitor and respond to inquiries from across the country via our Healthcare Hotline, 1-800-232-1782.

Field Service Program

VBD's Field Services program provides training, support, and management of 60 National Service Offices throughout the nation and Puerto Rico. We assist veterans and their families through every stage of VA's claim process from initial development to the Board of Veterans Appeals. We provide technical assistance for VA regulation review and offer training and support to VA staff at every opportunity.

VBD's field staff visit newly injured or newly diagnosed patients in VA's 157 VA Medical Centers as well as in the private sector. We monitor health care services nationwide and directly advocate for our members and other veterans.

Field services manage a high quality-training program for the field service officer that is recognized as one of the best by VA and other veterans service organizations.

Appellate Services Program

VBD's Appellate Services program has maintained one of the highest rates of success among all veteran's service organizations in representing veterans before VA’s Board of Veterans Appeals (BVA).

Veterans may turn to the Appellate Services program for legal representation when their benefits or medical claims have been denied by local VA facilities:

* Service Connected compensation
* Non-Service Connected pension
* Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (for survivors of veterans)
* Reimbursement of emergency medical expenses
* Home health care
* Clothing allowances
* Specially adapted housing
* Automobile grant and adaptive equipment
* Special monthly compensation
* and many others

Our staff of Senior Appellate Representatives (SAR) works directly with the local PVA National Service Officer and the veteran and/or family member to obtain all evidence possible to prove benefits for the veteran are warranted. Subsequently the SAR presents written and/or oral arguments before BVA. In addition, PVA provides free representation to active duty service members and veterans before military Physical Evaluation Boards and Boards of Correction for military records to ensure that every benefit possible is obtained.

Veterans Service Officers

County Veterans Service Officers (VSO), in partnership with the Department of Veterans Affairs, work to ensure that veterans receive the federal and state benefits to which they are entitled. Thirty states have county VSOs to provide information and help fill out applications; the rest have state or regional officers. The work of VSOs is becoming increasingly important as veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan return home.

Wisconsin has County Veteran Service Officers in nearly every county in the state. To learn more about the Wisconsin VSO program, and to locate an office near you, click on the following link or paste it into your browser: http://dva.state.wi.us/CVSO.asp
